New York State Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages - Event Information

Event Name:
A Joint Panel Discussion Co-hosted by NYS TESOL and B-MEIS: "Should we expand or diminish the role of assessment for multilingual learners"

Description:
This NYS TESOL and B-MEIS (TESOL Multilingual-Bilingual Interest Section) joint panel discussion is inspired by an article titled Multilingual Mysteries: Should we expand or diminish the role of assessment for multilingual learners at https://www.cal.org/cal_blog/multilingual-mysteries-should-we-expand-or-diminish-the-role-of-assessment-for-multilingual-learners/ (published by Center for Applied Linguistics). In the article, the author asked:

“If we shift our view of assessment to reflect a teaching and learning paradigm, can we then broaden the reporting of what our students can accomplish?”

To examine the intersections between equity and assessment for multilingual learners in our collective effort to move towards inclusive assessment practices, this panel aims to unravel the complexity of this issue through juxtaposing diverse perspectives in practitioner friendly terms and make recommendations on future directions.
