The first years in an ENL or bilingual classroom are exhilarating and exhausting in equal measure. New TESOL teachers often find themselves navigating unfamiliar terrain: co-teaching relationships, unit-based service minutes, NYSESLAT preparation, advocating for multilingual learners in schools where they may be the only certified ENL professional, and building a teacher identity that fits both their training and their reality.
Join the Teacher Education SIG for a candid conversation with early-career ENL teachers, mentor teachers, and teacher educators about what the first years actually look like — and what makes the difference between burning out and building a career.
